To Anxiety,
Shall we begin with where you began?
No, first I’d like to ask you about
your master plan:
Did you hope that I would fall?
before I opened my eyes to it all?
Did you want to make me scream?
enough to make me miss out on my dream?
Did you intend for me to cry?
long into the night while life
passed me by?
Or did you in fact, want me to react
so that I might find hope
along with ways to cope?
You helped me to climb
and make the most of my time.
You helped me to realise
the importance of advice.
You taught me that tears are fine,
although born of sadness, they are mine.
You allowed me to think with a clearer mind
and discover the happiness you never
thought I’d find.
In the beginning all I felt for you was hate,
but gradually I became patient and able to wait
for that moment when the bad becomes good…
…the moment at which hate becomes love.

Bravo, Jade. I LOVE it! I do not suffer from anxiety though I know of many who do. I am so thrilled you have submitted this poem. It is outstanding and I know others will love it just as much as I!

I think it is wonderful that you can find how your anxiety has strengthened and improved upon your person despite the frustrations and uncomfortableness that it causes in your day-to-day life. 🙂

Thanks! Poetry is my main coping method along with giving myself space from the world and people in order to concentrate on myself and my own peace.

I am reblogging this because it is the poem that inspired the ‘Letters to the Mind’ project, and an example of what form a contribution could take. I hope that this, in turn, will inspire others.

This is a beautiful poem I found on Jade Moore’s blog. I hope one day I understand my bipolar enough to write about it with this sort of clarity

Thank you! Writing this poem was what made me realise how my hate had turned into love through the process of coming to terms with and dealing with my anxiety over the years. 😊
